Wader 5.0: The Pilot Logbook App That Briefs, Tracks and Flies With You

18,000 pilots have logged over 7.5 million flights in Wader. Wader 5.0 is the biggest update we have ever shipped, and almost every line of it started as feedback from one of them.

The short version: your logbook now knows about your next flight before you do. Wader 5.0 briefs you for it, tracks the aircraft you are about to fly, logs every sector from real ADS-B data, and keeps your crew one tap away. It is live now on iPhone, iPad and Android.

New in the Wader 5.0 pilot logbook app

  • Briefing: weather, NOTAMs, alternates, your route and your position on one map for your next flight.

  • Live aircraft tracking: where your aircraft is now, how late it is running and which gate it is heading for.

  • Multi-sector ADS-B logging: a whole day of sectors from one flight number, or from a tail number.

  • NOTAMs and D-ATIS: NOTAMs on every airport screen, and digital ATIS for airports in the USA and Australia.

  • A logbook you can search: instant search, filter chips and totals for whatever you filter.

  • A new Dashboard: totals, recency, a map of everywhere you have flown, your fleet, type ratings and a document Wallet.

  • Your crew in the app: a friends map, direct messages and flights you can share straight into a colleague's logbook.

  • A completely new iPad app: a side bar and two panes, built for the bigger screen.

Briefing: your next flight on one screen

Open the Briefing tab and your next flight is waiting: date, flight number, route, aircraft type and tail across the top, and the route drawn on the map underneath. Choose to see the direct line, the filed route or the track of the last flight on that route, with a range arc and your own GPS position on top.

Before off-blocks the Briefing stays in ground mode. Log your off-blocks time and it switches to flight mode, showing the route you have flown so far. A second tab, Airports, holds the full picture for every airport on your day.

The weather cards were rebuilt too. Strong winds and gusts are flagged at a glance, with Wader PRO the TAF is read at your departure and arrival times, and refreshing the weather for your origin, destination and alternates is noticeably faster. Adding alternates now suggests the large airports first.

Your checklist moved into the Briefing as well, as its own tab after the flight. Tasks turn amber five minutes before they are due, so nothing slips while you are busy on the ground.

Live aircraft tracking: know where your aircraft is

For airline crew, the most useful question before a duty is often the simplest one: where is my aircraft? Wader 5.0 answers it on the Briefing for Wader PRO pilots, with a live tracking card that shows the aircraft assigned to your flight, its position, its ETA and any delay.

When the tail has not been assigned yet, Wader follows the inbound flight that is expected to become yours, then switches over as soon as the aircraft is confirmed. From an hour before arrival, Find gate tells you where it is parking. Turn on automatic updates and Wader sends a push when the aircraft departs or when your flight times change, and a tap takes you straight to the flight in your logbook.

Log every sector with ADS-B

Logging a four-sector day used to mean four flights and a lot of typing. With Wader PRO, enter one flight number and a date and Wader finds every sector flown that day, chained in order, including the sectors that cross midnight UTC. Pick the ones you flew and save.

No flight number? Search by tail number instead. Block times, take-off and landing times, airports and aircraft are filled from the aircraft's real track, which means less typing and fewer mistakes. New to ADS-B logging? Here is how real-time flight tracking works.

NOTAMs and D-ATIS

NOTAMs are back on every airport screen, and on your alternates, for every Wader pilot. They are grouped and easier to scan, with the full text one tap away.

For airports in the USA and Australia, Wader PRO now shows the digital ATIS on the Weather tab, next to the observed METAR and the last 24 hours of reports.

A logbook you can search

Type two letters into the search box and your logbook filters as you type: airports, registrations, crew, flight numbers. Combine search with filter chips, or open the filter screen for anything more specific. A summary card shows the total time, flights and simulator sessions for exactly what you filtered, which makes checking hours for an application or an interview a few seconds' work.

Opening a flight takes you to a redesigned flight log. Times flow in the order you fly them, crew can be copied from your last flight, and long-press selects several flights at once.

Dashboard, Fleet and Wallet

The Dashboard was rebuilt from the ground up. Your totals and recency sit on top, followed by a map of every place you have flown. The Fleet tab now has two views, the models you have flown and your type ratings, which you can add and edit yourself. Helicopter time is now counted on its own, not mixed into aeroplane totals.

The Wallet keeps your licences, medicals and other documents, and tells you which ones have expired or are expiring soon, before anyone else does.

Your crew, in the app

Wader has always been more than a logbook. In 5.0, the Home tab has two sides: the Community feed, with flights, alerts and news, and Friends, with a map of where your friends are flying.

  • Find a colleague with one search, by name or by Wader code, or invite them with a link.

  • Message any friend directly. Chats have their own inbox, apart from your notifications.

  • See a friend's roster for the next 30 days, if they choose to share it.

  • Add a friend to a flight's crew and share it: they accept, and the flight lands in their logbook too.

You stay in control. The first time you open 5.0, you choose whether to share your roster, share your location and appear in pilot search, and you can change each choice at any time in Settings → Privacy.

Built for iPad

Wader 5.0 brings a completely new iPad app. A side bar replaces the tab bar, and screens open in two panes: your logbook list on the left with the flight open on the right, or the feed beside your messages. The Dashboard becomes a single page of cards, and menus open as popovers next to the button you tapped. Run Wader in Split View or Stage Manager and the layout adapts to any width.

Cleaner everywhere

Every screen moved to the same glass design, with a new bottom bar and a + button that creates anything from anywhere. Fields, menus and alerts now look and behave the same across the app. Notifications are split into Flight updates, Social and Promotional, so you choose what reaches you. Logbook Preferences and app Settings now live in separate places, and signing in starts with your email, taking you straight to the right way in.

What comes with Wader PRO

Logging, the Briefing, weather, NOTAMs, friends and messaging are part of every Wader account. Wader PRO goes further: live aircraft tracking with terminal and gate, the actual flight track on the map, Smart TAF at your ETD and ETA, D-ATIS, one-tap multi-sector logging, unlimited ADS-B flights, imports from other logbooks, recency control, checklists synced across your devices and the Wader API.
